Delaware Space Grant Outreach Mini Grant Program

Notice of Funding Opportunity

Purpose: Small grants to support STEM education in K-12 Delaware schools and community organizations will serve to:

  • Create STEM interest and excitement in K-12 students
  • Help K-12 students see themselves as STEM students
  • Create a collaborative bridge between classroom K-12 teachers and the Space Grant Program

Funding Amount: Awards of up to $3,000 per educator

Eligibility: Awards are available for educators and community leaders working with K-12 students in the state of Delaware. Funds are to be spent on supplies for student activities or group travel for students. Funds may not be used to pay teachers or students directly.

Timeline: This is a pilot offering of this program in Delaware. Applications will be due December 1, 2025, and awards will be issued in January 2026. The number of awards given as well as any future offerings will be determined by funding availability.

Applications: Applications will be accepted through the Gateway system.

Applicants must upload a supporting document to include:

  • A summary of the project with an explanation of how the project will contribute to students’ STEM experience
  • A detailed budget
  • A detailed timeline
  • Number and grade levels of students to benefit from the project
  • An accounting of any matching funds or effort offered by the applicant or their organization
  • Contact information for the applicant

The review committee reserves the right to interview applicants during the decision process in order to clarify objectives and plans.

Examples of Allowable and Unallowable Expenses (an incomplete list):

Required Reporting: Following the project, each awardee will issue a summary report to Delaware Space Grant Consortium detailing the experience. The report will include the number of students impacted by grade and the expectations for future impact. Awardees may also be invited to speak on their experiences. 

Financial Administration: Funds will stay with Delaware Space Grant available for awardee requests by email which may be catalog links or invoices. Purchases may be made by Space Grant directly to be shipped to recipient or alternatively, awardees may complete purchases on their own and submit receipts to Space Grant for reimbursement which may take up to 60 business days. In the case of the reimbursement route, awardees will be required to register with the University of Delaware (UD) procurement system by completing the UD substitute online W9.
