National Eclipse Balloon Project

DESGC committed to offering travel funds for the 2023-2024 NEBP team from University of Delaware, led by Dr. Ed Nowak. Anticipated student learning ranges across technical skills related to using tools, electronics, RF communication, particle detectors, sensors, data acquisition, mechanical design and construction/assembly, computer applications and databases as well as problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Students will also engage in critical and quantitative thinking as they analyze and interpret data. Students plan to launch their balloon during both upcoming eclipses, likely in Texas.

In August 2023 the team had a successful campaign launching from York, PA and recovering their entire payload in North East, MD. Students were able to use the data collected to analyze temperature with altitude and balloon performance.
