Growing up, I often found myself pondering the possibility of humans venturing beyond Earth and the moon, wondering if it was more than mere fantasy. Now, as a graduate student at the University of Delaware, I have the incredible opportunity to delve into the realm of synthetic biology, specifically optimizing biofuel production from CO2-derived resources, which hold promise not only for Earth but also for missions to Mars. I am driven by the desire to propel space exploration forward and offer sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel-derived chemical production on our planet. Working on this project with the Delaware Space Grant Program excites me because I believe that by harnessing the power of science, we can pave the way for a sustainable future and expand our horizons beyond Earth.
